The Wonderful Land of Iceland

By: Joey Blackman, AJ Watkins, and Sam Rosenberg

Iceland is a small but mighty country located in the continent of Europe, and also in the Atlantic Ocean. Its population is about 320,000 people and its largest city is Reykjavik, its capital city. It has a normally cold climate, because it is located in the Arctic Circle. Recently, Iceland was harshly affected by the economic crisis experienced throughout the world, similar to the ecnomic downturn in the United States. Despite these hard economic times, the economy in Iceland is gradually improving due to a change in leadership.

On another note, Iceland is a beautiful country with a rich and historic culture that distinguishes it from other countries. Although the language is not widely spoken outside of the country, it reminds some people of Spanish, but more of gibberish.  Iceland is also known for its music and literature. It is home to many Rock band and people around the country listen to and enjoy the music.  Iceland has plenty of pubs located throughout the country. It's hard to believe that beer was banned in this country for 74 years given the number and variety of pubs that now exist and thrive. Art is enjoyed and appreciated in this country. Wood-crafting and weaving  are  popular artistic activities enjoyed by many people. Needless to say, Iceland is a country full of meaning, passion, and culture. I hope you are ready to dive deep into the sports, holidays and customs, and cuisine of Iceland!
